From a primary kello (to urge on); "hail"; to incite by word, i.e. order:--bid, (at, give) command(-ment).
So "call", at its most basic origin, means 'to incite using words'. Even today in English this rings true: "'What is he called?' called Mum"...
1. 'Call' can mean something equivalent to 'name' - 'what word do I use to elicit a response out of him in particular?' ... 'I think it's John' ... 'JOHN!' ... 'no, no response whatsoever' ... 'wait, no, sorry - try Jim' ... 'JIM! Yes, that's it - he's coming over!'
2. 'Call' can mean something equivalent to 'shout' - 'Mum spoke the words loudly to ensure they elicited a response'.
